Inlays and onlays are custom made to fit your damaged tooth perfectly, providing you with a long-lasting result. They are typically made from porcelain, composite resin material, or gold. Once placed, they work to restore the health, function, and appearance of your teeth and smile. Inlays and onlays are also virtually invisible once placed, and work to conserve as much of your natural tooth structure as possible. Inlays and onlays are often preferred over other restorative treatments due to the fact that they are a more conservative treatment option.

The difference between inlays and onlays is very small. A dental inlay is used when the damage to the tooth does not reach the cusps, or pointed ends, of the tooth. A dental onlay is used when the damage extends to one or more of the cusps. Your dentist will carefully examine your teeth to determine whether an inlay or an onlay is the right option for you.
